"Chiese (Church) Parr Sacro Cuore Del Suffragio, Rome" submitted by RomeTour Editorial Team and last updated on Thursday 28th April 2011
Giuseppe Gualandi made a project of this church in 1913-14 and put it in the realization in 1917. The construction has evident traces of the inspiration by the Cathedral of Milan with lots of gothic elements.
In the building belonging to the church there is a "Museum of liberated souls", which contains proofs of the existence of the "beyond world", collected from all over the Europe.
Adjacent to the Chiesa Sacro Cuore del Suffragio there is a small museum of the Souls of Purgatory - Museo delle Anime del Purgatorio. Around 1897 the French missionary Victor Janet started collecting objects (clothes, fabrics, frocks, skullcaps, breviaries, bibles, nightshirts, small wooden boards, etc.) that were considered to be"branded" by the hands of the dead to prove the afterlife to their living relatives. All the material kept in showcases is exhibited to the publicin a room adjacent to the church of the Sacro Cuore del Suffragio, peculiar example of neo-Gothic construction in 1890 on Lungotevere Prati.
