Palazzo Capranica, Rome

It was built in 1457 by cardinal Domenico Capranica, who wanted settle here a school. After his death, the brother of him enlarged the palace. One of the few surviving buildings of Rome dating back to the 15th century. The palace is an interesting example of the beginning of Renaissance architecture (1457).

At present one part of the palace is occupied by an "Almo Collegio Capranica", and the other one by a Cinema, which was previously a site of a private theatre created in 1695 by the Capranica. The facade of the palace was executed in the 17th century and contains elegant cross windows. According to a tradition Palazzo Capranica grew on the place of martyr Agnese's house, that is why Capranica College celebrates its own holiday on January 21, the feast of St Agnes.
