Ina Assitalia S.p.a (Former INA), Rome

The palace Palazzo dell'INA/ Ina Assitalia S.p.a (Former: Istituto Nazionale Assicurazioni - INA) [National Insurance Institute] was built in 1923-1927 by Ugo Giovannozzi. The territory on which it was built belonged to Villa Massimo-Colonna. It is a very large construction with some baroque elements.

The building, like the other at the opposite side of the square, was designed by Giovanni Muzio, Mario Paniconi and Giulio Pediconi, taking inspiration from the Trajan's market. Each exedra encircles a fountain, on each side of the road to Rome.

Piazza Navona/ Stadium of Domitian (stadio di domiziano) was once the track of the Stadium of Domitian, providing a striking example of urban continuity in Rome. After excavation, the surviving walls were incorporated into the Palazzo dell'INA. The best preserved part of the Stadium is a column of Porta Santa marble that was at the entrance at the center of the curved side, and is left open to view under the Palazzo dell’INA.
