Palazzo Lante (Palazzo Medici Lante della Rovere), Rome

Palazzo Lante (Palazzo Medici Lante della Rovere) is located at Piazza dei Caprettari between piazza Navona and the Pantheon and this 16th-century building is considered to be one of the most beautiful palaces of Renaissance Rome. Palazzo Lante was built by Sansovino for the Medici family before 1520. In 1533 it passed to the Lante. An elegant courtyard is bordered by porticoes and loggias, it is probable that ten columns in it were brought here from the Colosseum.

Palazzo Cenci, Palazzo Lante (which once belonged to Pope Leo X Medici) is attributed to Giuliano da Sangallo. A Lante married the last heir of the Della Rovere, the family of Pope Julius II (1503-13). He was allowed to add to his surname that of his wife and to make use of her coat of arms.

On the ground floor of Palazzo Lante you will find Rome's most elegant wine bar - Casa Bleve (Via del Teatro Valle, 48-49; 39-06-686-5970;, a palatial winte bar within the former courtyard of the 16th-century Palazzo Medici Lante della Rovere.
