The Comune di Serrara Fontana (Serrara Fontana Municipality) at Island of Ischia In Campania region (Naples Province) occupies the territory of 669 hectares and has a population of 2.950 inhabitants. Ther presence of a human life on this part of island is documented from the Iron Age. In 8 - 6th centuries b.C here was situated a Greek village. The other inhabited center existed in the 3rd century b.C. on the place of contemporary Noia, where was found numerous pieces of cermics, these evidences are dated till the 4th century a.C. During the Middle Ages the important center was Noia, where the bishop of Ischia found shelter and where in 1374 he built new houses.
The population of Serrara began only in 17th century. Here the bishop of Ischia, under a title of baron, had his vassals, who in the beginning of 18th century substituted their dependence with the annual symbolic payment to the bishop. The places of interest are Sant'Angelo, Succhivo, Ciglio, Serrara, Fontana, L'Epomeo.
