Teatro Valle (Valley Theater) - Former Opera House

Together with Teatro Argentina it is one of two 18th century theatres survived till our days and keeping on to perform with success. It was built by marquis Camillo Capranica inside of his own Palazzo alla Valle in 1725, when it was left by French Academy, which stayed here for 40 years. The construction was made of wood by architect Tommaso Morelli and unveiled in 1727. The management of the new theatre was entrusted to Domenico Valle, thus it was called "Valle" for double reason.

The Teatro Valle (literally Valley Theater) is a theatre and former opera house in Rome, Italy. The first reconstruction took place in 1791; in 1822 it was rebuilt in stone by G.Valadier and G.Camporese. Due to success the theatre was modified and embellished in course of later decades.
Teatro Valle (Valley Theater) - Former Opera House at Via del Teatro Valle
Beginning from the middle of the 19th century, the Teatro Valle has staged only spoken drama. This perfectly proportioned 18th-century theatre is like a pocket opera house, with three levels of red-and-gold private boxes. There are occasional English-language works performed in English with Italian subtitles, as well as concerts from rock opera to recitals.

The seating in the Teatro Valle initially consisted of five tiers of 27 boxes. It underwent renovation in by Mauro Fontana in 1765 and was restored again in 1791. The theatre was rebuilt in 1821 to the design of Valadier, completed by Salvi and in 1845 a façade designed by Gaspare Servi was added. Today, it contains four tiers of boxes and a gallery.
