Villa Glori (Viale di Villa Glori), Rome

It was a vineyard of a certain signor Glori, who escaped from here in October 1867, when a bloody battle between a troop of Garibaldi's army and pontifical gendarmes took place on this territory. In the head of this revolutionary attempt were two brothers Enrico and Giovanni Cairoli. This occasion is commemorated by a column and a dry stable of almond-tree, beside which Enrico Cairoli died (Giovanni was imprisoned and died two years later from the wounds received during the battle). The house of the vineyard remained untouched.

The villa was rearranged in 1923-24 as a Memorial park (Parco delle Rimembranze) in honor of the soldiers died in the WWI, and was open to public; a great cross, by Raffaello De Vico, reminds about it. The park is planted with oaks, elms, cypresses, maples, etc. On its feet is an honorary monument to Polish commander Pilsudzki, and there is a fine view of the Tiber valley from the top of the villa's hill.
